A Little About A.L.I.V.E.

A.L.I.V.E. is an all volunteer based organization. No one who contributes their time, effort, money or energy here is ever paid. Everything we do is purely and simply a matter of the heart. The people behind this volunteer page are members of ALIVE Animal Services Group Inc.

We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation who has worked diligently with Mercer County Animal Shelter to try and transform it into a life preserving shelter instead of one that is labeled “high kill”.  When we first began, the shelter had more than a 60 percent euthanasia rate for dogs and much higher for cats. Currently Mercer County Animal Shelter does not euthanize for space and animals are networked and saved!  We are making this happen by working closely with the shelter and surrounding communities to provide resources to boost adoptions or placement with rescues.

Currently we are making transports to rescues in Maryland, WV, Pennsylvania and New York. Each transport averages 40 to 60 animals and costs approximately $400 dollars for van rental and gasoline. We try to be proactive and move not only those animals already impounded at our shelter to the safety of rescues but also animals within our community who are at risk of entering the shelter system.

We exist to extend hope, help, and health to animals in need that would otherwise perish without our intervention. Our small group of volunteers strive each and every day to make a difference in our community by coming along side individuals, shelters, and rescue agencies in their work to save animals’ lives.  Through fostering, vetting, transporting, photographing, networking, adopting, educating, lobbying, and many other activities we have impacted the lives of thousands of animals here in Southern West Virginia and our surrounding areas.  The common denominator for everything we do is to make a positive difference in the life of an animal in need. With people working together, these animals can go from being in jeopardy to a place of safety. We are determined to do all within our power to keep them ALIVE. It is our goal to give them hope and health through help.

We rely solely on donations and the generosity of others to accomplish our goals.  We appreciative your support of A.L.I.V.E. and the animals at risk in our area.  Every life matters!

Canine Rescuer Creed

"I Am An Animal Rescuer.

I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.

I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.

I have fallen in love a thousand times.

My work is never done, my home is never quiet,

my wallet is alwys empty, my heart is always full."

Mission Statement

A.L.I.V.E Animal Services Group, INC.

It is the intended purpose of this group to operate as a not-for-profit service provider (through a network of volunteers) to animals in need and their rescuers, fosters, adopters or caretakers by sharing aquired knowledge and collective resources, as well as helping to provide medical care, transportation, short-term shelter, safe haven and other services as required for companion pets, domestic farm and other (licensed/legal) animals in order to prevent suffering, death and/or euthanasia for these creatures.

This endeavor includes those animals housed in or removed from local shelters, rescues, habitats and foster care, those transferred from one legal owner to another, those animals who fall under the category of unwanted, nuisance, abandoned, stray, abused, neglected and homeless from the community.

This group believes the animals and their quality of life is critically important and they should not be the victims of euthanasia due to owner surrender, neglect, cruelty or abuse. We employ a strong emphasis on educating the community about the necessity of spay & neuter being a vital part of responsible animal ownership. A.L.I.V.E. strives to promote a comfortable and peaceful lifestyle for animals with emphasis on quality of life, a safe environment, and the control of animal population through humane sterilization.

It is the heartfelt desire of this group to provide

HELP - HOPE - HEALTH

to animals in need who would otherwise perish without charitable, caring and cohesive volunteer assistance
